A total of 76 options covering 88 pieces of property, or 4.114.45 acres of land, are being held by the Kalamazoo county clerk. The total amount paid on these options amounts to $23,500. The options are for six months and are renewable for an additional 12 months. The balance due on the options is $64,450 (as of Oct. 8, 1967.

Some of the options have been renewed since that date). These options were made possible through a $50,000 loan from the Upjohn Co. and a $50,000 loan from the Kellogg Co. If a regional airport is approved Nov. 4 at the polls and if the airport authority board and the two county, boards of supervisors select the Charleston Township for the regional airport, then the airport authority board will decide whether to exercise all or part of the options now being held.

HASTINGS Construction is expected to get under way next week on a new sewage lagoon system at the Barry County Medical Care Facility, culminating two years of study and planning.

Contracts were awarded Friday by the Barry County Board of Supervisors and the Hastings Township Board to Holwerda Heating Plumbing Co. of Wyoming, The company submitted the lowest of five bids at 876.28 for the project, which is expected to be completed by next spring. The social services board and the supervisors have been seeking a solution to the inadequate sewage system at the medical care facility since state health officials notified the county in 1967 that, if the present system were not repaired or replaced, the county faced the possibility of having to close the facility because of pollution to the Thornapple River. The township board agreed several months ago to act as the vehicle through which the project will be financed by the sale of bonds in the amount of $110,000. The supervisors' finance and property committee is expected to meet with state jail officials and architects in Lansing Nov.

17 for a planning session for the construction of a lockup systems for the county. Barry County has been without jail facilities since 1964 when state officials condemned the county's lockup system. Since then prisoners have been housed in the Eaton County jail at $35,000 annually. State legislation passed in June requires all counties presently without jail facilities to provide a 48-hour lockup complex. Board chairman Robert Lyons told supervisors that the committees will meet with Robert Russell, Michigan jail inspector, and a representative of the Daverman Architects to make plans for the construction of a minimal jail here in the near future.
