Stege, 71, one of the toughest policemen in Chicago history in the handling of hoodlums.

Mr. Stege died in California from a series of heart attacks. He and Mrs. Stege moved to Santa Monica in 1942. Mr.

Stege became chief of detectives in 1930. One of his first orders was "seize on sight all known gangsters." Mass arrests crowded lockups but paid off in solution of crimes. He retired in 1938 after 36 years with Georgetown's No. 7 Precinct. "He often said he wouldn't be happy anywhere but on his own Georgetown beat," said a friend, Mrs. Helen Gilbert. Mr.

Peterson's chief hobby ter his retirement was his backyard rose garden. The 30 bushes were in full flower at the time of his death. He also collected antique silver with his wife. Dewey to Address Mason Day Fete Former Gov. Thomas E. Dewey of New York will be the featured speaker at the annual George Mason Day celebration June 12 at Gunston Hall in Lorton, it was announced yesterday. This year marks the 180th anniversary of the adoption of Mason's Declaration of Rights. which became the basis for the Federal Bill of Rights.

The June 12 observance will begin at 5 p.m. with a concert by the Marine Band. Mr. Dewey will speak afterward. The program also will include presentation flag to Gunston Hall by George Mason chapter.

Soy the American Revolution Frank Coffer Pearson, 88, Delivered Star 13 Years Frank Coffer Pearson, 88, al native of Burke, and one of the town's best-known citizens, died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Jeffrey, in Fairfax Station, Va. Mr. Pearson, who is colored, was known to the whole community. He delivered The Star there for 13 years and gave up the work when he was 80.

Several winters, when the back roads were too bad for the safe passage of mailmen's cars, he would take the mail around on foot, as a favor to his neighbors. They returned his kindness after his house burned down in November, 1949. Fire broke out in Mr. Pearson's two-room frame dwelling while he was seated on the front porch, and there was nothing left of the small building when firemen arrived. Mr.

Pearson had known no other home as long as he could remember. He had raised his children there, and his wife, Mrs. Annie Mariah Bowles Pearson, had died there in 1940. While the ruins of his home were still smoldering his neighbors decided to build him another home. They did, right where the old one had stood.

Four years ago, Mr. Pearson's 9 acres were bought by the Federal Government for the proposed Burke airport area. He had made his home with his daughter since then. Besides Mrs. Jeffrey, he is survived by two other daughters, Mrs.

Alice Wright and Mrs. Nannte Wright, both of New York City; three sons, Ellsworth Pearson, Cordell Pearson and Lee B. Pearson, all of Washington; 36 grandchildren, and 34 greatgrandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Sadie Newman of Arlington, and four brothers, John Robert Pearson of Fairfax, and William Harry Alexander and Chester Arthur Pearson, all of Washington.

Services were to be held at 1 p.m. today in the Little Zion Baptist Church in Burke. Burial will be in the Pearson Cemetery there. During his career that began in 1910 he won three creditable mentions for meritorious police work. They were for cleaning up vice the north side, for bravery in arresting a gunman who had held off scores of police, and for arresting Ajoe Saltis, a beer baron, on a murder charge. Saltis sued Mr. Stege for 000 damages, claiming Stege had libeled him by calling him a gangster. The case was thrown out of court.

Mrs. Christensen, of Alexandria Physiotherapist Mrs. Carl O. Christensen, 54, wife of an Alexandria therapist, died unexpectedly yesterday, A native of Norway, Mrs. Christensen met her husband when they were studying in Copenhagen, Denmark.

She came to American in 1924. Dr. and Mrs. Christensen lived in Washington from 1924 until 1949 while Dr. Christensen served on the staffs of Providence and Gallinger (now District General) Hospitals, and also was in private practice.

They moved to Alexandria in Im-1949 and lived at 1634 Fitzgerald lane. Survivors are Dr. Christensen, two sons, Carl and Kenneth, and two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Anthony and Mrs. Norma McClean, and six grandchildren.

Born in Amherst, Mr. Carter was graduated from Howard University in 1901. He played football in college and later served on Howard's Alumni Association and board of athletic control.

Mr. Carter taught English and mathematics in the District school system for 42 years.
