Is paleo making you tired? - CrossFit Woodbridge (1)

Many of you have had questions about paleo and why you’re suddenly feeling so tired and weak. Like any change in eating habits, especially one where you’re transitioning from a high carb, low fatstandard American diet to a low carb, high fatdiet you’re body is going to need some time to adapt. Fatigue and weakness during your workouts is normal when you’re first starting paleo. Any side effects should be short term (anywhere from one tothree weeks).I know that it’s frustrating and it would be alot easier to just switch back to your old eating habits, but hang in there. It’ll be worth it in the long run.

Duringthe transition tonew eating habits, your body is transitioning from being a sugar burner to a fat burner. Your body is putting in alot of effort to make this happen, so be patient! Your body will thank you later.

Eating paleo also causes your body to retain more water, which can cause mild dehydration. That will also make you feel super tired and fatiged. Just remember to keep water with you at all time and drink constantly throughout the day. You shouldn’t ever be thirsty.

If you’re feeling like you aren’t getting enough to eat and you’re always hungry, add in more good fats. Avocados, eggs, Kerrygold butter are great to add to any meal for more fat content. Also, pay attention to which fats and oils you’re cooking with. Before you pour in the Crisco or use the Pam spray, ask yourself, “Would my great, great grandmother have cooked with this?” If not, it’s probably super processed and definitely not paleo. Take a look at this link for more information on which fats and oils to cook with: http://balancedbites.com/2013/02/faqs-what-are-safe-cooking-fats-oils.html

Bottom line, if you’re feeling like your energy level has gone way down since you’ve started paleo, don’t worry. Keep pushin through it and your body will adjust soon. Have a great day off everyone, and see you on Thursday!
