Whether it’s a friend, mentor, or even yourself - who do you celebrate this #IWD24?Growing up, my idea of a strong successful woman was a career woman at the pinnacle of her career. Now, my perception has definitely changed. Women juggle an enormous amount of responsibilities in their daily lives - each one of us has a different challenge and different mountains to climb. So today on #iwd2024 , i would love to celebrate the women I know, who have in their own way, been an inspiration to me - my mom ( didn't go to school but made us study hard ), my sisters and sisters in law - who cheer us on in their different ways, my girlfriends ( near and far ) who are ready to listen, cheer and scold. And my first kakak garang at Proton Production, who was very scary initially but went on to become a great friend...Ladies, you might not think that you are inspiring to anyone but you are to me.

I was auditing today and saw some really good initiatives done by my client on mental health. For someone like me, who works in a very male dominated industry, the initiatives are a step in the right direction - hence I am reposting this article..

'If I had an hour to solve a problem I'd spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about solutions' - Albert Einstein.Those who have been audited and have had non conformances would know about the Problem Solving tools,e.g. #5whys and #ishikawa. And for those who know me personally, you would know that i love the #5whys 😁 But its not only for audits, it can be used in any area of an organisation's continual improvement process. So, when i was asked to design and deliver a Root cause analysis/Problem solving training course for the Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA), I thought - perfect !It was a few sessions with various level of attendees, from Senior Managers to Auditors and Auditees. We also had different departments involved - which meant we had all kinds of root causes 😎 We had loads of laughs and based on the feedback, i believe we learned a lot! How do you manage problem solving and root cause analysis in your organisation? Do you use #5whys ? Or the #ishikawa / #fishbone ? Do the methods work to ensure that you identify the correct root cause(s) and relevant corrective actions? I didn’t know what I was getting into when I volunteered to mentor students with Brightside - but I am so glad I did! I mentored students who want to go into Engineering, via university or apprenticeship. It was such a learning experience for me as it was for them - chatting about career prospects, apprenticeship vs degree, university experience, working life, being a female in a male dominated industry etc. We live in such a jargon filled world, that I had to think hard in order to explain what I did or what engineering encompasses. And I am so happy to report that the young students are definitely on the road to engineering. And the best part is, 2 of them are girls 🙌.
